Deaf Ángela and her hearing partner, Héctor, are expecting a child. Its arrival disrupts their relationship as Ángela deals with what it means to raise a baby in a world not built for her.
Eva Libertad’s moving debut social drama explores a difficult and unique theme — the relationship between a deaf woman and motherhood — partly inspired by the personal story of the deaf lead actress Miriam Garlo, the director’s sister, with whom she had previously made the homonymous short film. The film delves deep without slipping into melodrama, maintaining a warm, feel-good atmosphere that earned it the Panorama Audience Award at its Berlinale world premiere.
