WOMEN IN LOVE
USA - 1969 - Color - 131’
Dir.: Ken Russell | Scr.: Larry Kramer (adapted from the novel by D.H. Lawrence) | Cin.: Billy Williams | Ed.: Michael Bradsell | Mus.: Georges Delerue, Michael Garrett | Cast: Alan Bates, Oliver Reed, Glenda Jackson, Jennie Linden | Prod.: Larry Kramer
A highly praised and loyal adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's complex novel which, perfectly timed with the 60’s sexual revolution, questions traditional masculinity and highlights the feelings we repress to fit in. It also challenges the common beliefs about relationships, and whether everyone is made for monogamy, while it delves into the complexities of love, sexuality, and human connection, particularly the idea of platonic love between two men. G. Dellerue's musical score emerges as both cheerful and moving, ending up heartbreaking, capturing much of Lawrence's vivid style to get to the essence of the novel.
The movie was nominated for 4 Academy Awards- including that of Best Director and gave Glenda Jackson her first Oscar.
