Ηoly Emy

2021 | Greece, France, USA | Col. | 111’

Dir.: Araceli Laimou | Scr.: Araceli Laimou, Giulia Caruso | Cast: Abigael Loma, Hasmine Killip, Michalis Syriopoulos.

Emy feels totally an outsider in the close-knit community of the Filipino Charismatic Catholics in Piraeus, a group that has warmly embraced her older sister, Teressa. When Teressa becomes pregnant Emmy will go through a strange transformation and access forces that never knew existed within her.

This social drama with metaphysical undertones is a captivating debut by the young filmmaker that sheds light on a world totally unknown to Greek society while diving deep into the female psyche. Newcomer Abigael Loma finds the way to beautifully depict the “unholy” gift of Emy in this unfolding psychological thriller, while the Pireaus fish market is poetically portrayed through the lens of Korean cinematographer Ki Jin Kim.
